Confirmation

Affirming Our Covenant

Confirmation is a pastoral rite in The Episcopal Church, which means it is not a rite that notes some fuller initiation into the the Body of Christ. A person is a full member of the Church through Baptism. Confirmation, as defined in The Book of Common Prayer, is "a mature public affirmation of faith and commitment to the responsibilities of Baptism." At Confirmation, an individual receives the laying on of hands by the bishop, thereby affirming their own faith and visibly connecting to the broader Body of Christ.

2016/17 Class Details

As we watch our children grow up, one of the best things, at least for me, is to watch their personalities develop as they begin to make some more “grown up” decisions about their lives.  One of these decisions is seeing how they respond to their faith and how their faith helps them mature into young adults.  In the Episcopal Church, an important part of that religious walk is participating in Confirmation classes and accepting our Anglican traditions as a way of life.

Confirmation classes are taught by our priests, Father David and Father Matt, to students who are currently in the 8th grade as well as any older youth who wish to be confirmed in the Episcopal Church.  Classes will begin January 8th, from 5-6:30 p.m. on the 4th Floor with dinner being served each week before we begin our classes.  Bishop Fisher will be here Sunday, March 26, 2017 to confirm our youth at the 8:45 a.m. service.  A more thorough schedule and outline of the program will be handed out January 8th

We will have a retreat to Sky Ranch with Father David on January 20/21st, 2017. This is a fun and team building time which Father David begins this class by teaching the history of our church as well as leading our confirmation group in an Instructional Eucharist. There is no cost for the retreat. The time frame is leaving from the church on Friday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. and returning to the church around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14th.  Pertinent details will be handed out on January 8th as to what to bring, etc. Father David requests each student participating in confirmation make all attempts to attend our retreat.

Confirmation is a big step in our faith journey and I am certain this program will better equip our students to choose to have Christ and the Episcopal faith in the center of their lives.  Contact me and let me know your child will join us.  djarrett@christchurchtyler.org
