Youth Ministry Overview

The Youth of Christ Church

The Episcopal Youth Community (E.Y.C.) of Christ Church is a place where students currently in 5th-12th grade can grow in, and connect with, God through Christ. We deepen our relationships with our Lord and one another through games, theological discussion, study, fellowship, and breaking bread together. Whether it is midweek Bible studies, Sunday morning Christian education, or other events, E.Y.C. is a place for being oneself in a safe, fun, and loving environment. We also take trips out of town, attend Diocesan youth functions, and participate in local service projects. Mission is also a very important and central aspect of our E.Y.C. time together. We are blessed to have wonderful sponsors and teachers who truly care about our kids, and who give freely of their time and talents. Contact Denise Jarrett at with any questions on how to get involved in our wonderful programs.

Fish, Junior, and Senior E.Y.C.

Our youth community is built around three age-specific groups for most programs, studies, activities, and trips.  Youth currently in 5th & 6th grades are considered “Fish.” Our 7th & 8th graders are placed in Junior E.Y.C. and all students in 9th-12th grade are considered part of Senior E.Y.C. Students in these grades, as well as their friends, are welcome to join us for any and every activty, program, or trip offered in our youth community.

Sunday Morning Christian Formation

Our Sunday morning program runs from 10:00-10:50 a.m. each Sunday throughout the school year. During the summer, Sunday School begins at 9:00 a.m. with worship services following at 10:00 and 10:05 a.m. All E.Y.C. groups meet on the 4th floor of the Grelling-Spence building for a light breakfast and fellowship. From there each group moves into their own classrooms for our weekly lessons.

Sunday School for Christ Church South begins at 10:00 a.m. and all youth meet at The Cabin (which is behind the pavillion). A light breakfast is also served.

Wednesday Nights

Wednesday night programming runs every Wednesday night throughout the school year (unless otherwise indicated on calendars and via email updates). All 5-8th grade students begin with an optional dinner ($5 charge) at 6:00 p.m. on the 4th Floor of the Grelling-Spence building. Group studies begin at 6:30 p.m. and parents may pick up downstairs when we conclude at 7:30 p.m. Our 9-12th graders also meet on the 4th Floor for dinner and then head to The Foundry for discussion.

March, 2016 was our 3rd year traveling with our Sr. High youth to Corozal Town Belize. We are partnering with St. Paul's Angelican School to help further their mission and school. We took 17 students and volunteers and offered 1,765 hours worth of work as we completely remodeled thier kitchen.

In June, 20 of our 7/8th graders headed to St. Vincent's House in Galveston to clean and repaint many of their spaces they utilize for welcoming the community as well as their education spaces.

Tyler Mission Week was once again a huge success with our youth offering 1875 hours worth of work towards PATH, St. Louis Therapeutic Riding Center, and North Tyler Day Nursery.
